Soft, flaky yeast buns generously filled with sweet cheese and swirled with vibrant currant jam, baked to perfection and topped with a shiny glaze.

  • Total Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: 12 buns

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup currant jam

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Punch down the dough and roll into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  5. Spread softened cream cheese over the dough, then dollop currant jam evenly across the surface.
  6. Roll the dough tightly from the long side and slice into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let them rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Optionally, brush with glaze before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure yeast is fresh for proper rising.
  • You can substitute currant jam with raspberry or strawberry jam.
  • Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
