Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 ½ cups Italian seasoned bread crumbs
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Pound them to an even thickness for uniform cooking if desired.
- Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. Dredge each chicken breast in flour, then dip in eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the bread crumb mixture.
- In a large ovenproof skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sear the breaded chicken breasts for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
- Remove the skillet from oven. Spoon marinara sauce over each chicken breast, then sprinkle generously with shredded mozzarella. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese melts and bubbles.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve hot with your favorite sides. For an easy pairing, try garlic bread or roasted vegetables.
Notes
- Choose a rich tomato marinara sauce for enhanced flavor.
- Avoid overloading with cheese to keep the dish balanced and not greasy.
- Let the baked chicken rest for 5 minutes after removing from the oven to retain juiciness.
