Flaky, tender, and topped with a rich buttery glaze, these breakfast biscuits are perfect for a cozy morning treat or brunch. Easy to prepare and delightfully indulgent, they are sure to become a household favorite.

  • Total Time: 25-30 minutes
  • Yield: 8 biscuits

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons honey (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (for the butter pool)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for optional glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Cut in the cold butter until coarse crumbs form. Stir in milk just until combined.
  2. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, then pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out biscuits. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  3. Melt 1/4 cup butter and pour into a baking dish. Arrange biscuits on top. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and butter pools around them, creating the signature butter swim.
  4. Remove from oven, and optionally, drizzle with a glaze made from powdered sugar and milk. Serve warm with extra butter or jam.

Notes

  • Biscuits are best enjoyed warm for maximum butter melt-in-your-mouth flavor.
  • Overmixing the dough can lead to denser biscuits; mix until just combined.
  • For a sweeter version, add more honey or serve with honey butter.
