Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons honey (optional, for extra sweetness)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (for the butter pool)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for optional glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Cut in the cold butter until coarse crumbs form. Stir in milk just until combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, then pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out biscuits. Place on a greased baking sheet.
- Melt 1/4 cup butter and pour into a baking dish. Arrange biscuits on top. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and butter pools around them, creating the signature butter swim.
- Remove from oven, and optionally, drizzle with a glaze made from powdered sugar and milk. Serve warm with extra butter or jam.
Notes
- Biscuits are best enjoyed warm for maximum butter melt-in-your-mouth flavor.
- Overmixing the dough can lead to denser biscuits; mix until just combined.
- For a sweeter version, add more honey or serve with honey butter.
