Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)
- 1 cup warm milk
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for topping
Instructions
- Warm the milk until slightly above room temperature, then dissolve the yeast in it. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape each into rounds or ovals and place in a greased baking dish or on a parchment-lined sheet. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with seeds if desired.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and brush with additional butter if desired.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
- For a sweeter version, sprinkle cinnamon sugar before shaping the rolls.
- For a savory touch, add cheese or herbs inside the dough.
- Let the baked rolls cool completely before storing to prevent sogginess.
